Each United Methodist Church in Ohio is invited to nominate a person who will be recognized as Historian of the Year at the UMHSO Annual Meeting.
The following criteria will be used to select the winner, who needs to excel in just one area:
1. The Historian of the Year may be a person(s) who has written an outstanding, carefully documented print history of a local United Methodist Church, tracing its roots to its beginning whether United Brethren, Evangelical, Methodist Protestant or Methodist Episcopal.
2. The Historian of the Year may be a person(s) who has collected and preserved a wide variety of historical artifacts that relate either to the local church or to Ohio Methodism.
3. The Historian of the Year may be a person(s) who has produced a “born-digital” history of his/her local church, e.g. a web site created to tell a story.
4. The Historian of the Year may be a person(s) who has set up a local church archive from scratch or vastly improved an already existing archive center, using standard archival principles.
5. The Historian of the Year may be a person(s) who has produced an audio-visual history of his/her local church, e.g. a documentary, or oral history project that can be viewed on a television screen or computer monitor or listened to on a CD player.
6. The Historian of the Year may be a person(s) who has collected, selected, edited, and published a historical compilation, e.g. all churches in a district or in a particular geographic area.
7. The Historian of the Year may be a person(s) who has organized and directed an especially creative, meaningful anniversary celebration at his/her local church.
8. Non-winning nominees for Historian of the Year for each conference may be reconsidered by the conference Commissions on Archives and History for each of the two years following their original nomination.
In submitting your nomination, please enclose as much documentation as possible, e.g. manuscript or printed histories, DVD’s, audio CD-ROMs, descriptions and photographs of the individual’s work in the local church archive, or description of planning, organizing and facilitating an anniversary celebration.
