The Archives of Ohio United Methodism is the official repository for materials generated or owned by the East and West Ohio Conferences of The United Methodist Church and their antecedents, their organizations, districts, churches, and individuals associated with the Conferences. It is jointly sponsored and supported by the two Conferences, which merged their collections at Ohio Wesleyan University in 2003.
 
The Archives is located in the Special Collections department of Beeghly Library, on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. Hours are 8:30-12 Noon and 1-5 PM, Monday-Thursday. During the summer months, we open at 9 AM instead of 8:30 AM.

The collection contains:
  • Books about the history of United Methodism in Ohio and other U.S. states
  • Manuscripts and conference proceedings relevant to the history of Ohio United Methodism (Methodist Episcopal, Evangelical Association, United Brethren, Methodist Protestant, EUB, Methodist, United Methodist)
  • Artifacts, photos, and other museum objects depicting the history of United Methodism in Ohio
  • Publications of The United Methodist Church
  • Local church history files
  • Membership records of closed and abandoned churches
  • Dead Ministers file (index to clergy who have died--service records & locations of memoirs, photos, etc.)
  • Many newspapers, journals, and periodicals, including the Western Christian Advocate, Ladies' Repository, Der Christliche Apologete, Haus und Herd, Der Christliche Botschafter, Methodist History
  • Items of special interest, such as the James B. Finley correspondence, Bishop Thomas A. Morris papers, the Roy Leedy Evangelical book collection, a significant collection of material relating to German Methodism, and a large collection of hymnals and tune books.

For a fee, genealogical research can be conducted by the staff of the Archives. A flat fee of $25.00 is charged. This includes research, photocopies, and mailing costs. There is usually a wait of at least two months once information has been requested. An online research form is available on the Archives home page
